A pathway to self-sufficiency is affordable, safe housing
Affordable, safe housing is an important issue for families in the tri-county area. Housing costs have grown much faster than inflation during the past several years. Vacancy rates for rental property is in the 1% to 2% range for many communities. According to a report produced by the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, 56% of very low-income persons (those who earn less than 30% of the state median income) pay more than 30% of their income for housing.
